The application form presents only the future courses with active rosters, grouped by course type.
The application form is designed to be personal to each course-taker, with guidance on their own progress to achieving certification in the Effective Teaching Practice Framework and only displaying the list of courses to which they are eligible to apply. To identify the applicant, they first must provide an email address. The email address is validated through an authentication code send to the user, which must be entered to proceed.
Using the provided email address, ACUE checks for the following information:
previous applications
previously completed courses
current enrollments
With this information, the application form displays the course-taker's Progress to Certification to support the course-taker in choosing course options that meet their goals for certification. It also hides courses from the application that would result in duplicate applications, retaking courses the applicant has already completed, or taking multiple courses simultaneously.
If the applicant completed a course of the same or similar* type, the course will be shown as "Completed" and not available for selection.
If the applicant already applied to or is currently enrolled during the same or similar* type, the course will be shown as "In Progress" or "Pending Application" and not available for selection. Applicants can apply to a full course, however, even if they have previously completed or are enrolled in a micro4 (DC, “Designing”) course.
If the applicant already applied to or is currently enrolled in a course with a conflicting schedule**, warning message will be shown and courses will not be available for selection.
If two or more of the courses included in the application form are the same or similar, or they have overlapping schedules, the applicant with only be allowed to select one. If the applicant then selects a competing course, the previous choice will be unselected automatically.
* Courses are considered same or similar if they contain the same modules. For example, the course "Effective Teaching Practices" has all the modules included in the course "Creating an Inclusive and Supportive Learning Environment", so a course-taker would not enroll in both courses.
** Schedules are considered conflicting or overlapping if their start dates are within 2 weeks of each other
