Start/Continue Recruiting

1. Solicit leadership involvement for recruiting

Strong leadership messaging has consistently been among the most influential factors in faculty success in courses in ACUE's years of studying what makes a partnership most successful [insert success factors]. If faculty feel that their effort toward improving their teaching is valued and recognized, they are more likely to enroll in and persist in courses. The template below can be used/modified and sent out by the appropriate senior leader.

2. Build broad awareness of your ACUE partnership.

The best way to recruit is to start with broad awareness. What is ACUE? Why did we partner with ACUE? How does this fit into our strategic goals and priorities? Sharing the message broadly on campus, consistently, will reinforce the culture of teaching and learning that drives overall partnership success and continue to increase the pool of potential applicants who are aware of the opportunity available to them. The media kit below has several resources you can use/modify to share about your partnership with ACUE.

3. Encourage faculty and staff to sign up for an information session.

Another key to faculty success is ensuring they are informed about the courses being offered and prepared to meet the necessary requirements. ACUE's information sessions are led by ACUE Academic Directors and provide faculty an opportunity to see what the courses will entail, what time and effort is required, and to get their questions answered. Faculty who attend and information session in advance of enrolling are shown in ACUE's research to be more successful and engage in more change to their teaching. Use the template below to invite your faculty to register for an upcoming information session.

4. Connect with peer leaders at other campuses to share ideas.

Did you know that ACUE has launched a new national community to connect faculty and leaders across the country? If your campus is a member of the ACUE Commons, you can connect with other leaders there to share experiences and get ideas for successful recruiting in similar campus contexts. Be sure to utilize this network if it is available to you!

5. Reach out to past course-takers who require this course on the path to certification.

If you've been offering ACUE courses before, one great way to encourage enrollment is to strategically communicate with course-takers on the pathway to certification who have not yet completed the courses for which you're currently recruiting. You can use the Transcript Report in the portal, located in "Data and Reports" to review past or current course-takers who have not yet taken the course(s) being offered next. Review the directions on how to filter the report to isolate a list of potential applicants.

Activate Rosters

Early recruiting provides more opportunity to ensure your faculty learn about and can register for the upcoming courses. You can activate rosters as far in advance as you would like, but we strongly suggest you begin recruiting at least two months in advance. Roster that are marked "active" are those that will appear on your application form if they have a start date in the future; "inactive" rosters are not visible to potential course-takers.

To mark a roster active, navigate to "Program Management" and use the "Roster" button to open the roster. At the bottom of the page, select the check box under "Status" that is labeled "Active".

You can review a demo of a roster being activated here.

Address Low Enrollment

ACUE uses a cohort model to maximize learning, and have heard from many partners that building community in the ACUE course experience is one of the best - if unexpected - outcomes of the partnership. To maximize the cohort experience and ensure the most faculty are on the pathway to certification and student success, we encourage you to take additional steps to increase your enrollment for rosters that have fewer than 10 registered course-takers. Templates below include targeted messaging to other leaders on campus who can potentially assist in recruiting, as well as opportunities for faculty to share with peers about the opportunity to join the upcoming courses.

2. Target new groups of course-takers you might not have previously considered.

3. Leverage collegial relationships for course-takers who have already registered for these or past courses.

Review Invitation Acceptance

You can review the invitation status of invited courses by viewing the roster page.

Navigate to "Program Management" and use the "Roster" button of the selected program to view the the invitation status of each course-taker. These statuses current and updated in real time each time this page is opened.

Review more details about course-taker statuses at Monitoring Course-Takers Status in Canvas.

Collect Success Stories

Recognizing and celebrating faculty achievements helps to build a culture of teaching and learning on your campus and also spreads the word about what a great experience it is to learn and grow in your instructional practice! More than 90% of ACUE course-takers nationwide would recommend the course to a colleague - a great way to continue to recruit new faculty and staff to join courses is to hear from their peers about the experience.
